Ravenna Gorge walk

Having stayed last night just inside the Northern edge of the Black Forest, we got up this morning and drove a little deeper into it. We stopped for some brunch at a lovely roadside picnic area with expansive views, then made a second stop at a cuckoo clock salesman’s house (we did briefly consider buying one for the van but decided against it). After that we meandered through the forest, past waterfalls and endless expanses of pine, to Ravenna Gorge, where we parked up and set off on an 8km walk up through a beautiful gorge and back down to the town of Hinterzarten where we sampled a rather hench wedge of the obligatory Schwarzwälder kirschtorte at Fräulein Me, a fantastic cafe and cake shop overlooking the station.

Once back at the van we drove out of the forest and crossed into Switzerland, set up camp and managed to catch the last rays of sun at an ammunition depot (very romantic) in a clearing in some woods just north of Brugg.

  1. No shortage of good food by the looks of it. And brill weather. It might rain one day. Well done. You’re having a great trip.
