In and out of Belgium and an accidentally decent run
Today we said goodbye to Serena and family and set off from Lille, Belgium bound. The roads were quiet to the point that motorway driving was actually enjoyable, and it was interesting to watch the landscape gradually change from flat to undulating and then positively hilly as we came into the Ardennes. We stopped in Sedan to check where we would be parking the next day for the fortress visit, and then went hunting for some nice non-alcoholic drinks (it had got up to 30 degrees and we felt the need for some refreshment).
Then we drove another 15 mins or so to what appears to be a mixture of native woodland and well-managed forestry. Whatever it is, it’s very peaceful, and apparently wild boar have been spotted here recently (we didn’t see any but suspect we heard one)! Shortly after arriving we set off for a run, aiming for 4km, and accidentally did twice that, partly because we didn’t notice the distance being eaten up as we were having a great time adventuring around the woods. That’s the location of this post.

We got back at about 8, had nice hot showers at the back of the van, and then got a simple chicken dinner on in the pressure cooker. It all felt quite civilised, and like we’d finally, properly started the adventure! The ferry crossing just yesterday morning seems an age away!
